Study: Myofascial Manipulation Helps Ankle Sprain Recovery

This NIH study shows some correlation between myofascial therapy used in conjunction with traditional treatment methods for an ankle sprain. This is a major component of Structural Integration. Here is the conclusion of the study:

“CONCLUSIONS:

This study provides evidence that the addition of myofascial therapy to a thrust and non-thrust manipulation and exercise protocol may result in superior outcomes as compared to thrust and non-thrust manipulation alone in the treatment of individuals post inversion ankle sprain. However while statistically significant the difference in improvement for the primary outcome between groups was less than what would be considered a minimal clinically important difference. Future studies should examine the long-term effects of these interventions in this population.”
